Tom of Finland (2017) Gay Movie

Tom of Finland is a biopic written by Aleksi Bardy & Mark Alton Brown. The movie was directed by Dome Karukoski. It tells the story of Touko Valio Laaksonen, a Finnish designer and painter who was born May 8, 1920 in the city of Kaarina. Its phantasmagorical and fetishists representations of men had an enduring influence on the modern gay culture. Tom of Finland shows Touko (Pekka Strang) as he returns home after a grueling experience of the Second World War. There, he slowly sinks into boredom and depression. Persecuted for his homosexuality, he begins to lose himself in secret affairs while being pressured to marry a woman. So he takes refuge in his art and expresses his refoulement by drawing a series of homoerotic sketches, representatives of muscular men in kinky situations. His work marked the beginning of an artistic revolution that will later change the gay scene’s face in the USA.
