Wonderkid, a gay short film by Rhys Chapman that explores the football universe
Wonderkid is a 20 minutes british film about homophobia in high performance sport. It follows the inner turmoil of a gay professional footballer, played by Chris Mason, as he comes to terms with his own identity, struggling to reconcile his sexuality with his career ambitions. We can see him sinks into alcohol addiction and worsen his case of obsessive–compulsive disorder. Locked in a vicious circle, he will precipitate his own downfall instead of assuming its true nature. This work is clearly tinged with a political message that enlightens the pressure felt by gay athlete who refuse to be themself in a world driven by the concept of perfect and absolute manhood. Wonderkid is an author film created by Rhys Chapman. It should be released this year.
